James E. Russell (Jim) was born in Sandpoint, Idaho in 1933 to Alex and Mae Russell and was raised there among five siblings, Bonnie, Ross, John, Vivian and Dave. He married Virginia (Ginny) Kelley in 1956 and they raised two children James and Debra. After graduating from the University of Idaho in electrical enginneering in 1956 he worked a year for RCA in power tube manufacturing and then served 3 years as Army officer at Redstone Arsenal. In 1960 the Russell family moved to Rockville, Maryland where Jim and Ginny still reside. He became an expert in the application of operations research methods while at Johns Hopkins University Operations Research Office and Research Analysis Corporation. He joined Science Applications International Corporation in 1972 and from 1972-20o4 served as Senior Vice President for Corporate Development playing an instrumental role in growth of the employee owned comapny from its infancy to $6 billion in revenue and over 40,000 employees. As an independent consultant since 2004, he has served as a board director for Cleantech Biofuels, Inc. and a senior advisor for the Foundation for Enterprise Development and many high technology and alternative energy companies. He is a member of the University of Idaho President’s Circle and Academy of Engineering.
